Minimalism...the most cluttery thing about the word is the accumulation of letters to form it. Beyond that...it's a great word and one that's showing up more and more. I think a lot of people are just getting tired of stuff--excessive stuff. Too many clothes, too many shoes, too many "gotta have it-why did I buy that" souvenirs, etc. We are indeed consumers; sometimes oddly so.
Really...what the heck to we need with all those shoes? How many of them are actually worn regularly? I'll pick on females since I am of that species. After a quick bit of research, it was found that women have, on average, 18 pairs of shoes. Eighteen. Wow.
I have met very few people who actually delight in cleaning a cluttered home, but nevertheless, here we are. We amass...and amass...and collect...and horde...what is with us, anyway?
Then comes Spring...a time of liberation of all that suffocates us. Thrift shops' drop off areas have vans, suvs, and trucks lined up with treasures than have, over time, become less than priceless possessions. Yard sale signs spring up like dandelions. I'm guessing there's a surge on Craig's List, on Ebay, and in the local newspapers of items that people are now more than willing to part with--real deals!
So, to you I say...come join the fresh air of the liberation of stuff! Clear out those closets of those clothes that don't fit, shoes that aren't comfy, and just general stuff that's no longer interesting. Give it the old heave ho. Walk back into your now minimalist home and breathe the air of roominess...and stay away from yard sales, thrift shops, Craig's List, etc.
You know what they say about one man's trash being another man's treasure...beware of the rebound! Stand tough! Fight the need to possess! You'll eventually break the habit and what a fine day that will be.
Now grab that trash bag and s-l-o-w-l-y open that closet door...
